At Home Care Guide
Your unit deserves
to be treated like luxury.
Every AM HAIR unit is handcrafted with the highest quality materials. With the right care routine your unit will maintain its beauty, longevity, and that fresh-from-the-stylist look for as long as possible.
Section 01
Shampooing
your unit.
Keeping your unit clean is the foundation of good hair care. Shampooing too frequently strips the hair of moisture. Shampooing too infrequently causes product buildup and tangling. Every 7–14 days is the sweet spot depending on how often you wear it.
Detangle before getting it wet
Starting from the ends and working your way up to the roots, gently detangle your unit with a wide tooth comb or a paddle brush before shampooing. Never detangle a dry tangled unit under running water — this causes unnecessary shedding and breakage.
Rinse with lukewarm water
Hold the unit under lukewarm running water allowing water to flow downward in the direction of the hair. Avoid hot water — it weakens the weft and dries out the hair.
Apply shampoo
Apply a small amount of shampoo to your palms and smooth it through the hair in a downward motion. Never scrub in circular motions — this causes tangling. Focus on the wefts and roots where buildup tends to collect.
For cleansing, we recommend using a clarifying shampoo biweekly to once a month to remove buildup. Follow up with a moisturizing shampoo to restore hydration.

Rinse thoroughly
Rinse until the water runs completely clear with no shampoo residue remaining. Product buildup left in the hair will cause dryness and tangling over time.
Deep condition
Apply a generous amount of moisturizing conditioner or deep conditioner from mid-shaft to ends. Avoid applying conditioner directly to the wefts. Allow it to sit for 15–30 minutes then rinse thoroughly with cool water to seal the cuticle.
Be sure to rinse the conditioner out completely. If conditioner is not fully rinsed out your unit may feel stiff, heavy, or difficult to style once dry.

Gently squeeze out excess water
Never wring or twist your unit to remove water. Gently squeeze the hair downward with a microfiber towel or old t-shirt to absorb excess moisture. Allow to air dry on a wig stand before any heat styling.
Section 02
Styling
with heat.
Your AM HAIR unit can be styled with heat tools including flat irons, curling wands, and blow dryers. Always use heat protectant — no exceptions. Excessive heat over time will permanently alter the hair texture.
Heat Temperature Guide
Fine or thin hair: 250°F – 300°F
Medium density hair: 300°F – 350°F
Thick or coarse hair: 350°F – 400°F
Never exceed 400°F on your unit. Always start at a lower temperature and increase only if needed.
Always apply heat protectant first
Spray or apply a heat protectant evenly throughout the hair before any heat styling. This is non-negotiable. Heat damage is permanent and cannot be reversed.

Work in small sections
Divide the hair into manageable sections using clips. Working in small sections ensures even heat distribution and reduces the need to go over the same section multiple times.
Keep tools moving
Never hold a flat iron or curling wand in one spot for more than 3–5 seconds. Keep the tool moving smoothly through the hair to prevent heat damage and burning.
Finish with a light oil or serum
After styling apply a small amount of lightweight hair oil or serum to add shine and smooth the cuticle. Less is more — start with one drop and add more only if needed.

Section 03
Storing
your unit properly.
How you store your unit between wears has a direct impact on how long it lasts and how it looks each time you put it on. Proper storage prevents tangling, matting, and unnecessary shedding.
✦ Do
- Store on a wig stand or mannequin head to maintain shape
- Keep in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight
- Place in a silk or satin bag if traveling
- Detangle gently before storing
- Keep away from humidity and moisture
- Store in the original packaging if not wearing regularly
✕ Don't
- Don't stuff your unit into a drawer or bag
- Don't store while wet or damp
- Don't store in direct sunlight — causes color fading
- Don't place heavy items on top of the unit
- Don't store without detangling first
- Don't leave on a foam head long term — distorts the cap
Section 04
Nightly
care routine.
What you do before bed matters just as much as your shampoo day routine. A simple nightly routine extends the life of your unit significantly.
Remove your unit before bed
Sleeping in your unit puts unnecessary tension on the lace and causes tangling from friction against your pillow. Remove it before bed whenever possible.
Braid or twist the hair loosely
Before storing overnight loosely braid or twist the hair to prevent tangling. One or two loose braids is enough — do not braid tightly as this causes creasing.
Place on a wig stand
Store your unit on a wig stand overnight. This keeps the cap shape intact and prevents the hair from getting flattened or tangled.
If you must sleep in it
If you choose to sleep in your unit wrap it in a satin scarf or wear a satin bonnet. Never sleep on a cotton pillowcase — use a satin or silk pillowcase to reduce friction.

Use heatless rollers to maintain curls overnight
If your unit is styled in curls or waves use heatless rollers before bed to preserve the curl pattern without any heat. Set the rollers loosely, cover with a satin bonnet, and remove in the morning for refreshed curls with zero damage.

Section 05
Lace
replacement.
Since all AM HAIR units are glueless there is no adhesive maintenance required. However the lace will naturally wear over time and will eventually need to be replaced.
How Often Will the Lace Need Replacing?
Lace longevity depends on how frequently you wear your unit and how well it is maintained. On average:
Worn regularly (daily or several times per week): Lace may need replacing every 6 months.
Worn occasionally (a few times per month): Lace can last up to a year or longer before needing replacement.
Signs that your lace needs replacing include thinning throughout the lace itself. Note that some fraying along the hairline is normal over time and is not an indicator that the lace needs to be replaced. Contact us at contact@shopamhair.com to discuss lace replacement options.
