How long will my unit last?
With proper care your AM HAIR unit can last anywhere from 2½ to 3 years. Longevity depends on how often you wear it, how well you maintain it, and how frequently you use heat. Units worn daily will naturally have a shorter lifespan than units worn occasionally.
How often should I shampoo my unit?
We recommend shampooing every 7–14 days depending on how often you wear your unit. Use a clarifying shampoo biweekly to once a month to remove buildup, followed by a moisturizing shampoo to restore hydration. Over-shampooing strips the hair of moisture and shortens the life of your unit.
My unit is tangling — what do I do?
Tangling is usually caused by dryness or product buildup. Shampoo and deep condition your unit, allow it to fully air dry, then detangle gently starting from the ends with a wide tooth comb or paddle brush. Apply a leave-in conditioner or light serum to restore moisture. If tangling persists contact us at contact@shopamhair.com.
How do I restore shine to my unit?
Apply a small amount of lightweight hair serum — we recommend Paul Mitchell Skin Serum — to the hair and distribute evenly. You can also do a quick steam treatment by holding the unit over a bowl of hot water for a few minutes then gently reshaping and air drying.
Can I swim or exercise in my unit?
We do not recommend swimming in your unit as chlorine and saltwater cause significant damage to the hair and lace. For exercise wear a sweat-resistant bonnet to protect the unit. Shampoo your unit promptly after heavy sweat sessions.
My unit feels stiff or heavy after shampooing — what happened?
This is almost always caused by conditioner that was not fully rinsed out. Rinse the unit again under lukewarm water until the water runs completely clear and the hair feels light to the touch. Going forward make sure to rinse thoroughly after every conditioning session.
Styling
Can I use heat on my unit?
Yes — your AM HAIR unit can be styled with flat irons, curling wands, and blow dryers. Always apply a heat protectant before any heat styling. We recommend Moroccanoil Perfect Defense Heat Protectant. Never exceed 400°F and always keep your tools moving to prevent heat damage.
Can I color or bleach my unit?
We do not recommend coloring or bleaching your unit at home. Chemical processes can permanently damage the hair and void any quality concerns. If you want a color customization please reach out to us before placing your order so we can discuss options.
Lace
When does my lace need to be replaced?
The main sign that lace needs replacing is thinning throughout the lace itself. Some fraying along the hairline is normal over time and is not an indicator that replacement is needed. On average lace may need replacing every 6 months with regular wear, or up to a year or more with occasional wear. Contact us at contact@shopamhair.com to discuss lace replacement options.
Orders & Policies
How long does it take to receive my custom unit?
Custom units have a processing time of 3–4 weeks. This includes construction, quality inspection, and preparation for shipment. You will receive updates throughout the process and a tracking number via email once your unit ships. Processing days are business days Monday through Friday.
What is your return policy?
All sales are final. Due to the custom nature of each unit we do not accept returns or exchanges. If your unit arrives damaged or defective please contact us at contact@shopamhair.com within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and photos and we will work to make it right.
What happens if I provide incorrect measurements?
If measurements provided are inaccurate and your unit does not fit as a result a reconstruction fee will apply. We strongly recommend having your measurements taken by a professional if you are unsure. Our team is happy to guide you through the measuring process — simply reach out before placing your order.
Do you offer ready to ship units?
Yes — our Ready To Ship collection features units available for immediate shipment. These units are pre-made and ship within 1–2 business days of your order.
